I was introduced to a sample of these decadent little squares by a friend and former neighbour a few years ago. I immediately noted the recipe, but until now haven't been self-disciplined enough to trust myself with more than the memory of this simple but heavenly pairing of chocolate, peanut butter, and yes, butter and sugar. My increased preference for savory over sweet, and a recent occasion to treat some co-workers was sufficient encouragement to make a whole pan. Almost as good as the
Peanut Butter Cups I made for my Dad, yet decidedly easier to prepare, you just can't go wrong with peanut butter and chocolate. Bring along some
Cocoa Fruit Treats for a diabetic and gluten-free option.
Peanut Butter Chocolate Squares
For the base:
1 1/2 cups of crushed graham crackers
1 cup of smooth peanut butter
1 3/4 cups of icing sugar
1/2 cup of butter, softened
For the topping:
1 cup of chocolate chips (I used a mixture of milk and dark chocolate)
3/4 cup of smooth peanut butter
In a medium bowl, mix together the graham cracker crumbs, peanut butter, icing sugar and butter until well combined. Press into a lightly greased 9" X 13" glass pan.
Melt the chocolate chips and peanut butter together in a heavy bottomed pan until smooth. Drizzle over the bottom layer, smoothing evenly with a spatula.
Chill until set and cut into small pieces.

It seems entirely appropriate to contribute this tempting treat to
Bookmarked Recipes, a weekly event hosted by Ruth of

It sounds easy and delicious!! Like homemade Reese's! Mmmm - Thanks so much for a wonderful recipe, Lisa.
These do sound irresistible. . .I think I'm going to have to wait until I can bring some to my coworkers, too, or I'd eat them all!
would it be wrong to make these, crumble them into a batch of homemade ice cream, and then eat all the ice cream myself? because that is totally what i want to do.
I use to make these when I was a little girl and they really do taste like Reese's peanut butter cups. I love them.
Lisa these look great. So much so I am now craving a peanut butter nutella sandwich - but only because i do not have one of these scrumptious bars.
My hubby would love these he is mad for peanuts and they look so good.
Those look so good! ...mmm...peanut butter and chocolate...
Yum these look SO good. I am bookmarking them for a treat for my husband since he loves peanut butter and chocolate!
yes please - I would happily eat these - I would make them too but wonder how many would be left to eat by the end.
I can almost taste these! I think you are right though, it is best to make them for friends, that's the safest way! I bet they were greatly enjoyed :)

I just looked at the ingredients and wow these sound like they'd be sweet! But they look so awesome and perfect I must save the recipe. I love that there's graham cracker crumbs involved - makes the bar even more appealing!
That looks so good, Lisa!! I only like PB on bread, but this makes me want to try it out.

Lisa, this is just what us Reese's-deprived kids down under need!
Thanks for the recipe. It's come in handy for several last-minute bring-something-to-share occasions. I've been using margarine, dark chocolate and rice bubbles/krispies to share them with vegan and gluten-free friends.
