A google image search is also helpful.

Chana dal is a small yellow split bean that looks very similar to toor day. Mung beans are small round green beans. You can buy split mung beans or whole mung beans. Personally, I prefer the whole mung beans. If you have an Indian grocery store near by, you will easily be able to obtain these ingredients.

You could substitute lentils, but the dish is really best with Indian dals. I am sure it would be good with urad dal too. I use the split white variety without skins.Lisa Turnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17596930753946940084noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5498332469430544166.post-10879801380122519122010-06-29T10:43:45.650-04:002010-06-29T10:43:45.650-04:00This looks and sounds delicious! It's a keeper - many thanks! We love the fresh flavours in what can too often seem a stodgy meal. (I couldn't find mung or toor dhal so just used urid dhal and red lentils instead - it seemed to work fine.)Franceshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16261929821305013286noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5498332469430544166.post-39529577513565327792008-04-09T11:45:00.000-04:002008-04-09T11:45:00.000-04:00Excellent Lisa!!Excellent Lisa!!Valerie Harrison (bellini)https://www.blogger.com/profile/10205920305666658534noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5498332469430544166.post-61362511333361262172008-04-09T08:34:00.000-04:002008-04-09T08:34:00.000-04:00Lisa,I am drooling over all these amazing recipes ...Lisa,
I am drooling over all these amazing recipes I've missed in the past week or so! This dahl looks great. And I love, love both the fritters and croquettes (must get more beans into me!). But of course I will be trying that lemon poppyseed bread first.

My mom used to make spoonbread all the time when we were kids, but I never liked it much; I think yours, however, could convince me to give it another try (how could it be bad, with jalapenos??). I would tend toward the breakfast usage, though!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5498332469430544166.post-26398540374214433132008-04-08T20:29:00.000-04:002008-04-08T20:29:00.000-04:00That looks tasty and hearty. That looks tasty and hearty.test it commhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07795596315329913917noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5498332469430544166.post-67263861269467127092008-04-08T19:30:00.000-04:002008-04-08T19:30:00.000-04:00Your beautiful dal's always look so inviting.Your beautiful dal's always look so inviting.Lucyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05524429760235996360noreply@blogger.com
